ROAM: Social For Good Experience Presented by TELUS

We are pleased to share with you details of the TELUS Social for Good Experience. Attendees at ROAM will experience hands-on learning about the power of using social media for a good cause by giving back to the community through participation in TELUS Days of Giving. Attendees will have the opportunity to choose between several meaningful volunteer opportunities, listed below, which they will actively take part in on May 12th.

Each experience has limited spaces available and sign up is on a first-come, first-serve basis.

YWCA (10 spots)

Time: 3 – 5 pm

Location: 1192 Quebec Street, Vancouver (behind Main Street skytrain station)

Opportunity: The YWCA CityGate Early Learning and Care Centre needs help in their garden/play area. CityGate caters to low-income (50% subsidized) inner city families for children aged 3 to 5 years, and prepares children for school with a range of play-based activities. Volunteers will help with gardening duties, sweeping/weeding/pruning, and potentially some cleaning inside.


Union Gospel (15 spots)

Time: 3 – 5 pm

Location: 601 East Hastings Street

Opportunity:  Union Gospel Mission is determined to transform communities by overcoming poverty, homelessness, and addiction– one life at a time. Volunteers will help assemble hygiene kits (toothpaste, toothbrush, and etc) to provide to those in need.


Greater Vancouver Foodbank (10 spots)

Time: 3 – 5 pm

Location: 1150 Raymur Ave

Opportunity: The Greater Vancouver Food Bank (GVFB) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing food and related assistance to those in need. Evaluating and sorting donations is an essential part of their operations. It is with the help of people like you that they are able to provide food and other assistance to 26,500 people each week. Volunteers will help with a variety of tasks in the warehouse and will depends on the needs for that day.


Salvation Army (15 spots)

Time: 3 – 6 pm

Location: Belkin House (555 Homer Street)

Opportunity: The Belkin House exists to assist the homeless and those at risk of homelessness to become self-sufficient and independent through the reduction of physical, emotional, social and spiritual barriers. Volunteers will be involved with food preparation, dinner service, dishwashing & cleaning.
